11 Whaling Season 1949/1950
Letter
sent from Sandefjord 14-XII-1949 to the motor tanker Thorsøy, who would leave
with destination Aruba / Curaçao. In the Arctic region became the fuel oil and mail transferred
to the whale factory "Thorshavet", where the addressee electrical
Engineer Martin Wåle was employed.
The
sender got away with a domestic postal rate of 25 øre, since the letter was
sent to a ship that was in the harbor of Sandefjord. This rate of 25 øre was valid
from 1-10-1946 to 1-10-1951.

Oivind Eskedal sent this letter from South Georgia 12 DEC 1948 stamped at Gryteviken post office, to his family in Minde, post Bergen. Franked with 3d SG 48, postmark type SG 7. Oivind Eskedal was a company director in Gryteviken Walvis station for several years. (ca 1947 to 1952) He sent many letters to his family in Sandefjord and Bergen. He had his own envelopes, with his address on the back.
